Prenova Achieves Carbon Neutral Operations

ATLANTA, GADecember 17, 2009 – Prenova, Inc., a privately held energy services provider managing over $2 billion in energy spend for dozens of leading brands, today announced it has achieved 100% carbon neutral operations.

The carbon neutral designation was accomplished through a combination of comprehensive energy reductions at their offices in Atlanta, GA, and carbon offsets purchased through the Chicago Climate Exchange. Every aspect of office energy use was analyzed, including corporate travel and employee commutes. After relocating to more energy-efficient facilities, upgrading key energy consuming equipment, and instituting new practices specifically designed to reduce energy consumption, Prenova purchased carbon credits from the exchange, resulting in a corporate net carbon footprint of zero.

"For us, becoming carbon neutral was an easy decision," says Prenova Vice President and Chicago Climate Exchange trader Phillip "Whit" Engle, "because we’re genuinely concerned about sustainable business practices. We know that reducing energy use through energy efficiency is one of the most effective ways to save money, as well as the environment. Our carbon neutral status is just another way we’re telling people that we follow the same advice that we give to our clients."

Whit went on to explain that Prenova chose to become a member in the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) in part because it requires each member company to make a real commitment to reduce its carbon footprint through energy reductions. Compliance is verified by strict audit practices and standardized measurement and verification tools. As a consequence, each member’s carbon footprint is measured accurately, and any offset investment makes a real difference.

Prenova currently employs three certified CCX traders who are authorized to buy and sell carbon credits on the market.
