Software Developer, Database

Position Summary & Mission

This position holds full-spectrum accountability (to include design, development, testing, installation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance tuning) for Prenova’s internal and external applications, data warehousing, and business intelligence resources. The Software Developer (Database) is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing design principles and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of the data warehouse and accompanying software. The ideal candidate will not only be comfortable with Microsoft technologies and development methodologies, but will also be capable of designing, implementing and enhancing new or existing database-centric applications and scripts (core application environments include SQL Server Management Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio). The Software Developer will build and test software systems as described in design documents and will create some design documents based on user requirements; he or she should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence with an emphasis on reporting and data analytic items throughout the development life cycle. 

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Design, test, implement, and enhance new or existing database-centric applications and scripts
  • Assist in design, development and maintenance of ETL routines according to the data warehouse design and architecture
  • Assist in development & implementation of ETL mapping according to the data warehouse design and architecture
  • Assist in development & implementation of ETL importing processes
  • Support continuous development and refinement of BI strategies
  • Coordinate and work with other technical development staff to develop and improve relational database and data warehouse
  • Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for client/server databases and database applications as required
  • Develop automated database applications, where necessary, using the applicable database packages and Business Intelligence tools
  • Support in planning and implementing capacity and resource expansion to ensure scalability of company databases
  • Support in identifying inefficiencies in current databases and leverage solutions

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Engineering and/or 4 years equivalent work experience; and
  • 2-3 experience in a similar role; or
  • A combination of education and work experience equivalent to the minimum requirements for this position

Required Technical Skills

  • Demonstrable experience with developing, installing, configuring, and supporting MS SQL Server
  • Solid understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Solid understanding of OLAP Cubes and MDX query in design and implementation.
  • Working technical knowledge of current database software, protocols, and standards, including TSQL, ODBC, ADO, BI-SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS
  • C#, ASP.NET, WinForms, Visual Studio, Silverlight
  • Experience in Data Modeling
  • Familiarity with Star Schema and design principles
  • Experience in web development a plus, but not required

Location & Travel

  • Software Developer is based in our corporate office at 400 Northridge Road, Suite 1000, Atlanta, GA. 
  • General office environment, with extended periods working at a desk on a computer
  • No travel is anticipated

Working Conditions

  • Average minimum of 40 hours per week, with frequent deadlines and extra work before or after normal hours often required
  • On-call availability is required
